Following Sailors

After sailing in the tent at the 2024 J/24 Worlds in Seattle

You had to be there! Sailors love sailboat racing because of the boats, and the venues, and the weather, and the competition. These elements come together to make memorable events, but the competition is between the sailors, making sailors the axis everything revolves around. This is simple and obvious enough in single handed sailing when the boat owner and skipper and person listed on the registration list are all the same person. But as the boats and crews get bigger, following the sailor v sailor action can be hard to do.

Unlike other sports, sailboat racing does not have set teams. The crew lists change significantly from event to event. This element of musical chairs can really cloud up the sailor v sailor action. It is not uncommon for a sailor to be in the middle of an event when a crewmate says: “You know who is sailing with them today?”.

We are building YachtRacing.tv to include awareness of each sailor on each boat during each event. These complete crew lists will enable anyone following a series of events to see the sailor v sailor action clearly.
