Registrations are open for the Pacific Northwest One Design Regatta (“POD”) to be hosted by the Seattle Corinthian Yacht Club on the waters of Shilshole Bay on March 29th and 30th.

The POD will kick off a full calendar of one-design racing events at CYC, including, for the first time ever, hosting the J/70 Mixed Plus US National Championships from June 13–15. In this event, crews of four or five sailors may include no more than two males.  Use these links to find the registration pages for the POD and the US Nationals M+.

In just 10 years since its introduction in 2014, over 1,900 J/70s have been built and national class associations are established in 25 countries making the J/70 the fastest growing one design class in the world.

The pacific northwest region has seen that growth first hand, with over 55 boats actively sailed by over 300 sailors.  The boats are popular, but Ron Rosenberg deserves much of the credit for the momentum building in the pacific northwest fleet.  “If I’ve ignited passion for sailing in some small way, I chalk that up as a big win,” says Ron in his usual humble and enthusiastic style. “It’s awesome that we have so many smart, thoughtful people involved that really enjoy themselves with their friends.”

In addition to sailing here, Seattle sailors have been traveling to J/70 events across the country and in Europe.  Last year, three teams competed in the 2024 World Championships in Mallorca, and four teams just returned from the Primo Cup in Monaco.  Over the winter, Seattle teams also regularly travel to sunny Miami to compete in events that attract teams from the four corners of the globe.

About the Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle

CYC of Seattle was founded in 1945 by sailors that wanted to race more and socialize more with their sailing friends.  Now in its 80th year, the CYC has become the region’s pre-eminent club for people who love sailing, whether or not they happen to own a boat.  Members enjoy activities including racing, cruising, youth sailing, education and social events.

The club is a not-for-profit corporation of Washington State that is owned by the members.  Members are in charge of managing the organization and fulfilling its mission.
